Banjo: (beginner/intermediate) (clawhammer /frailing/ old-time style) Depending on your interests we will focus on learning the key characteristics of this style via traditional tunes as well as improvisation. I also specialize in using banjo as an accompaniment for singing.
Guitar: I teach basic beginning guitar, strumming and song accompaniment, and folk guitar styles (beg/int. fingerpicking, beg/lower intermediate bluegrass flatpicking, basic blues, and basic swing)
Traditional Appalachian Singing: Learn about and practice the stylistic elements that characterize traditional Appalachian singing.
Repertoire: Specializing in folk/country/roots/Americana music, I will introduce and help you learn material to increase your song repertoire.
Songwriting/Woodshedding: Using various songwriting exercises and games, we'll work on the art of songwriting. If you already have songs but are feeling stuck in the same strum pattern, melody, groove, etc... I'm happy to work with you on ways to strengthen your work.

"My online clawhammer banjo lessons with Coty via Skype are fantastic. She is always well prepared, meets me where I am on my instrument, and I am progressing faster than I could have imagined. Her lessons are fun and encouraging, and the hour goes by before I know it. If you want to have some fun and learn to play your banjo well, schedule a lesson with Coty!" |
"Coty's got a great attitude to accompany her wonderful knowledge base. She starts right where you are and works with you in a realistic setting to help get you where you want to go on your journey with the guitar. She's by far the best guitar teacher I've ever had! I'd take lessons from her again in a heartbeat and wholeheartedly recommend you avail yourself of her assistance if you're able!!"

"My Skype lessons with Coty were excellent, well planned, and incredible fun. Coty provided advice and feedback on my song lyrics, chord selections, and overall performance. Since taking lessons with Coty, I’ve written a few more songs and performed at my local Meet-Up. For the price, her lessons cannot be beat. I highly recommend Coty -- she's supportive and smart."
